Garment care
No matter what fabric you use to make this garment, I recommend you keep a leftover fabric scrap that you can use later to do some mending! At some point down the road, you might encounter a stain or a rip, and having that extra matching scrap of fabric might save the day!
Here are my tips for mending-->
Care instructions for Sewing Kit customers:
Your fabric is made from 100% linen. Whether you purchased my plant-dyed or undyed fabric, here are my best suggestions for garment care:
- Machine wash cold with like colors.
- Tumble dry on low heat, until 90% dry. Remove from the dryer and let air dry the rest of the way, or iron it dry. If it dries 100% of the way in the dryer, no biggie-- this might wear out the fibers a little faster, but on the flip side, it also softens them more, too (and don't we all love cozy clothes?)
- Wear it wrinkly, or iron flat. To iron, use the hottest setting and incorporate a lot of steam.
When buried underground, linen can biodegrade within 2-8 weeks! Cotton takes closer to a few months or years. (Polyester/nylon/acrylic is hopeless-- it won't biodegrade in your lifetime). After your garment is no longer deemed wearable, consider upcycling it into something else (at least salvage your buttons for another project!) Eventually, it can become a rag, and then later, you can cut up linen and cotton into small pieces (1-3") and incorporate them into a compost pile. Watch the magic happen as the worms and bacteria transform it from shirt into dirt! | ||
